Playing in the district team is serious business, just making the team is such an honour then there is the practise, team, strategy, bonding not to mention the games themselves but going up to cheer the girls on it amazingly stress free. We boarded the bus at Kardinia at 7.30.am .Sue Hazell had done an amazing job of organising things and we were no sooner under way and she was serving us Chicken and Champagne and managed to juggle serving it on a moving bus with ease. With all the introductions, chatter, trivia contest, raffles and quizzes we were sailing over the Westgate bride in no time its amazing how easy the drive is when are not behind the wheel…speaking of drivers we were lucky to have Lou Fatone in charge and with Rhonda as navigator we pulled into the gates of Rossdale in time to have a cuppa and arrange ourselves around the 9th green just as Micha walked up to the tee. It was great to see the girls come through one by one and smile when they realised the crowd was for them…of course we clapped all good shots it’s just that most of those were ours!! The games were very tight, one mistake and the hole was gone. Rossdale is a picturesque course with corridors of pines and eucalypts with lots of bunkers and water hazards and some nasty tiered greens so it was great to watch the girl’s course management as they went around. A good win in the morning meant we could enjoy lunch in the clubhouse and the scones jam and cream went down very well on a cold day. The afternoon game promised to be a beauty with both teams having had morning wins .South Gippsland in fact had won 7-0. We split up into smaller groups to spread our support out. We needn’t have worried as the girls had a handy 5-2 win and the supporters were just as happy as the players to hear the scores coming through from around the course. It was very exciting and we were in fine spirits as we said goodbye to the team, wished them luck for the next 2 days and headed off home. There was a good bit of frivolity on the return journey details of which must remain secret but it is fair to say a game of charades will never be the same again. We look forward to a trip to see our girls in Division 1 next year…imagine how serious Div 1 will be -we will have to be a very sensible!!!!!!
