Skirting the Fairways
with
Katharine Bunting
at Victorian State Secondary Schools' Sports Association State Team
to play in Canberra
23- 29 August 2009

The Girls team was really up against it. The NSW team actually had the Number 1 Australian Amateur Woman playing for them, Justine Lee. I think their highest Handicapper was 4 and the Queensland's team was 3. As an example of the talent, Katharine was battling away at 4 down with 6 to play when her opponent went EAGLE, BIRDIE on the next two to close it out. - How rude!!

The boys team won Silver and finished with only 5 players as one broke his ankle.

Ian Landy is the Victorian administrator and the following is an excerpt of an E-Mail he sent.

I would like to congratulate you all on the way you represented Victoria at last weeks SSA Golf Championship. I rarely get to see the teams compete so it was a privilege to spend my holiday watching you play. I was particularly impressed with your toughness at competition, particularly the girls who were playing players with much lower handicaps. Congratulations to the boys on your silver medals in the Matchplay.

Special mention to Travis Sharpe and Geoff Drakeford on your nominations in the Merit Team 2009.
I would also like to acknowledge the work of your managers who did a lot of work before the competition and then looked after you while you were away. Thanks Roger and Lynne (Toleman) on behalf of the VSSSA.

Before the event:

Katharine has been selected in the Victorian Secondary School's Sports Association (VSSSA) state team. There are six boys and six girls in the team. They will play in the School Sport Australia Golf Championships in Canberra from the 23 - 29 August 2009. It is thought they play an Individual Stroke round first, followed by a series of match play Matches against the other states.

The cost of the trip is $1200 and Katharine has been given $1000 worth of Raffle tickets (at $2 each) to sell, which directly reduces the cost. Approaches have been made to a number of organisations for some sponsorship- if you see Katharine selling tickets consider purchasing one from her to help alleviate her personal costs.

Something which should be considered very important for this district, there are actually 3 juniors from the district in the 12 person side. - Katharine, Deyen Lawson and Will Hume. Not too bad a representation!   Also Lynne Toleman from Lonsdale is the Girls Team Captain.

If you can help Katharine in any way her dad can be contacted
