Barwon Valley
redevelopment of holes completed
13
November 2011

After many months of patiently waiting for the 3 new holes at Barwon Valley to be open members and dignitaries attended an opening ceremony and luncheon at the clubrooms on Sunday the 13 November to mark the occasion. Andrew Katos cut the " official ribbon " to start proceedings and then the designer of the course Bob Shearer had the honour of hitting the first ball to open the new 14th, 15th and 16th holes.

Vic Roads regional manager, Robyn Miles praised the club, the contractors, the Barwon Valley Green Keeper Luke Primus and his staff, for the cooperation that was shown between all parties, during the construction of the 1.5 million dollar project.

With the opening now completed South Western District Ladies are encouraged to come down and checkout the course for themselves. In the words of Bob Shearer, "Barwon Valley is now " a lovely challenging golf course". The undulating greens, and lush fairway grass clearly blend in to the original ambience and layout of the original course.

A " Chicken Run " is held each Friday and a counter tea is available in the clubrooms from 6.00pm 7.30. A Sunday competition has commenced and members from other clubs are most welcome to play. For all further information and bookings etc contact the clubrooms on 5243 5443

The Secretary of the SWDLGA Joye Burton, and President Sue Hazell provided wonderful support and encouragement to the ladies committee by their attendance and participation on the day Lady Captain of Barwon Valley, Brenda Carmody thanked the SWDLGA for their cooperation involving Pennant throughout the reconstruction and also the other district clubs who offered their facilities while the course was being constructed. Brenda indicated that all Barwon Valley lady members were looking forward to this coming season when they could show off their new course.

A luncheon served by the ladies catering committee dressed resplendently in their new T shirts, provided a fitting end to a great day. Thanks Chris Primus, Norma Nankervis, Maretta Ridgeway and Carole Egberts.

Roll on the development of the next 4 holes !!!!
