Silver Salver Foursomes

HISTORY OF SILVER SALVER FOURSOMES EVENT This trophy was purchased from a donation from Ladies Golf Union England as thanks for food parcels sent regularly to them during the 1939-1945 War (organised by Miss. Austin). First played for in 1949 between July 18th to August 12th inclusive. Altered in 1956 to June 12th to July 15th inclusive. Altered in 1990 to May 1st to June 30th inclusive. In 1949 the entries were donated to the VLGU to assist in sending the Australian Team invited to England in 1950. After 1950 the funds from this event were retained by the SWDGA for District use. The winners to be the pair who bettered the Standard Scratch (now AWCR) of their course by the highest margin.
