THE MARGARET SMITH EVENT
This event was originally the Bronze Division of the 19‑ 36 handicap
event inaugurated in 1981.
In 1991 this section was divided into two further divisions, the 30‑ 36
handicap division was then named for Mrs Margaret Smith who has been
associated with the SWDLGA for many years. Firstly as delegate for
Geelong; Match Committee SWDGA; Chairman of Match SWDLGA; Country Team
player and selector for 20 years.
Mrs Smith won 6 SWDGA Championships; 13 Geelong Golf Club
Championships; 4 Lonsdale Golf Club Championships; 2 GDGA Ladies
Championships; Winner Betty Kernot Scratch Foursomes 4 times; Runner‑ up
5 times; VLGU Country Championships runner- up 3 times.
Mrs. Smith felt most honoured at receiving this tribute to her past work
for the Association. Margaret died in 2003
