Inverleigh have 4 more new lady members thanks to Vicky Thomas & SWDLGA.
Following up on 2012 when we held a "Give Golf A Go" clinic, we
attracted 8 new players. So this year we held another Clinic with the
backup of Vicky and this has been successful in obtaining another 4 new
Vicky has been the backbone of these clinics and her continued
support holding ongoing lessons every other week has again been the main
These new ladies continue to learn and achieve more golfing skills.
One already has her handicap, another is in the process of putting in
her 3 cards and the other two are toying with the thought of 'biting the
and getting their cards in.
Vicky not only comes to the club for these new ladies, she is still
in very close connections and helping the ones from the 2012 group.
These ladies are commonly called the "Apprentices" and the older
(experienced) ladies are known as the "Masters" (in word only that is).
We are now going to have to come up with a new category now that we have
3 levels of players!!
To add to Vicky's work load, there are several of the "Masters" who
have enlisted her assistance, and with good results.
Recently we held a fun 9 holes Ambrose day which involved the new
2013 ladies, each was put in a group with the rest of us, this created a
fun day with the new players and they soon realised we are not all
"perfect" players. A comforting comment at the end of the game was "I
was so scared coming here today, but you ladies sure are encouraging and
not frightening at all, we had a lot of fun" ... The focus on Fun and
Friendship certainly is the key ingredient, we embrace these new ladies
with lots of encouragement. They in turn are spreading their experiences
with their friends and this is where are next wave of members will come
To think that we were accustomed to having between 5 - 8 players on a
Wednesday, and now to have 10 - 14 each week and looking forward to
these 4 new ones, we cannot believe this outcome. We have already been
able to get some of the ladies out into the golfing world and
participating in outside events, and it will certainly increase as time
progresses. The future for Inverleigh ladies is looking very promising
and from reports I read of other clubs also holding these Give Golf a Go
clinics, it certainly seems that the District will also benefit.
Thank you to Vicky Thomas and SWDLGA for these great opportunities.
